Multi-functional (Tile Waterproof) Backing Board Introduction 1
What is a Backing Board?
When building or renovating your home, you will use tiles, marbles or mosaics. They add a personal touch and make the house more beautiful.
Therefore, we pay great attention to the choice of color, area, size and installation. However, all this effort is in vain, because external pressure (such as temperature changes, sunlight, frost, humidity or mechanical) will cause the tile adhesive to corrode and damage the building. What is the reason? Please continue reading.
Backing boards have high performance, made of waterproof extruded polystyrene, with glass fiber mesh embedded in the mixture on both sides, which enhances the strength and hardness of the board. Jieai backing boards are suitable for various new and renovation projects. They have high waterproof and anti-corrosion properties, making them the perfect solution for wet areas such as bathroom walls, showers and humid rooms. The board is light in weight, easy to handle, and can be easily cut with a sharp knife. It can reduce heat loss to the floor and reduce the time it takes for the floor to reach the desired temperature.
It also reduces power costs. Backing boards can be tiled to the surface of floors or walls, and for wooden floors and plaster walls no mechanical fitting is required. For wooden studs: only 10mm boards are needed, fixed with screws and washers.
Material Composition
This product is made of extruded polystyrene as the core, with a mixture of glass fiber mesh embedded on both sides.
Surface
The surface is a layer of waterproof polymer mortar, embedded with a layer of glass fiber mesh cloth.
Color
Its surface color is medium gray, with a light blue edge.
Shape
The board is rectangular, but can be cut into any shape.
Limitations
Backing boards are suitable for framing structures and other suitable bases. But they cannot be used on vinyl materials or as structural components.
Adhesion and Waterproofing
All joints of the board are sealed with adhesive tape. Tiles are fixed with cement mortar, so they can significantly resist the transmission of water vapor.
Fire Resistance
After installation, the fire resistance of the wall will not be affected. It can reach EN13501-1 flame retardant grade B, and concealed lighting should not use this form of insulation.
Thermal Insulation
The thermal insulation provided by this board is durable. The thermal conductivity of polystyrene is 0.035w/(m.k).

Multifunctional (Tile Waterproof) Backer Board Description 2
Other lightweight objects can be fixed to the backer board using professional fixing methods.
Durability
The durability of this material is very satisfactory. The board complies with building requirements and has stable and long lasting backing. Under normal conditions, it has a service life equivalent to that of the building, and will not be damaged. However, if damage or wear occurs, it is also convenient to repair.
Impact on Indoor Environment
The backer board is classified as non-emitting for any particles, toxic gases, or radiation, and will not affect indoor air quality or pose a significant impact on human health.
Environmental Statement
The backer board does not contain hazardous substances listed by the European Union environmental organizations.
Waste Disposal / Recyclable
After the service life ends, the backer board can be sent to a public waste treatment site for disposal.
Storage and Transportation
During storage or transportation, the backer board should be covered with clean material to avoid dust and dirt reducing the surface's adhesive properties. The board should not be exposed to fire, high temperature, or organic solvents. When stored, avoid long-term ultraviolet radiation.
Advantages
Ideal Backing for Tile Backer Boards
Backer boards are innovative surface backing materials made of ceramic or natural stone tiles. They are suitable for all building surfaces and can be installed on metal, wooden frames, and new file or decorative surfaces.

Instructions For Use
Substrate Preparation:
➢ Apply directly to wedi extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) products and/or wedi cementitious-based surfaces. ➢ Other substrates must be clean, dry, free of dust, oil, grease and any contaminants that could harm bonding. ➢ Clean substrate with methylethylketone (MEK), acetone or a special degreasing agent. ➢ Apply a primer if necessary. ➢ Check the compatibility of the solvent used with the substrate. ➢ When using solvents, extinguish all sources of ignition and carefully follow the safety and handling instructions given by the manufacturer.
Caulking:
➢ wedi Joint Sealant can be applied with a manual or pneumatic gun. ➢ After application in between wedi assembly parts, use a putty knife to smooth out any excess sealant and work it into the weld surface entirely covering the joints. Where the sealant is used in between wedi parts, make sure that they are pressed together firmly. ➢ This sealant should be used within 24 hours of opening or it could harden in the cartridge. ➢ Do not apply at temperatures below 40 °F. ➢ In cold weather, store the sealant at 68 °F for 24 hours prior to use. ➢ Avoid any contact with non-cured MS, hybrid PU or silicone sealants as well as alcohols or ammonia during curing.
Cleaning:
Tools can be cleaned with MEK or acetone before the sealant has completely cured. After curing, abrasion is necessary.

Application areas
For the safe and secure sealing of corner, transition and butt joints for interior applications of wedi building boards and systems.
Processing
For sealing building board joints in constructions for private areas (acc. to the European Regulation for building products) the sealing tapes are glued into a thin bed mortar, pressed on with a trowel and levelled out once again with thin bed mortar. For sealing building board joints in constructions for public areas (acc. to the European Regulation for building products) the sealing tapes are to be glued onto a fresh sealing compound, pressed on with a trowel and once again levelled out with sealing compound. For sealing the adjacent joint areas of the wedi Fundo shower elements tape is again applied in sealing compound.
The sealing tapes must be laid with overlapping joints of at least 5 cm. Floor drains and cut-outs must be sealed with the appropriate wedi wall and floor sealing collars.
